How Paws and Affect came to be...
(I don't really like having my photo taken!)
This is me, Sasha, with my amazing dog Mitzy.
As children we had the usual pets but, if I wanted to live among more or bigger animals, I was told would have to marry a farmer - I promise you I did not know that my (now) husband was working on a farm when I met him!
So now I am really fortunate to be living on a smallholding in Surrey with my husband, 3 rescue dogs, Jacob ewes, Jacob, Southdown and Suffolk rams and some chickens. I have experience in dog, cat and wildlife rescue, studied animal behavior and, when younger had a love for horses and horse riding. On the farm we have families of Little Owls that have been here for over 30 years, visiting Barn Owls, and Kestrels, Kites and Buzzards are often in the skies, and of course bats.
As idyllic as all this sounds, nothing is perfect and the Black Dog of depression can still come calling... and it did
** Paws and Affect Portraits **
With plenty of time on my hands and a need to occupy my mind I turned to drawing and soon discovered how therapeutic it could be for me, and I found that I could finally concentrate on something again. Graphite came first, then coloured pencil. Art has renewed me and I feel I have found my purpose.
Paws and Affect - Sasha's art, aims to blend the special connections between animals and humans in that I not only want to depict the physical appearance of our animals but also resonate with the emotional connection we share...
